Calcite (otherwise calcareous spar) is one of the natural forms of calcium carbonate.
A rock-forming mineral. In its pure form, calcite can be white or colorless. It can be transparent (Icelandic spar), or translucent. Impurities give calcite a variety of shades. Thus, nickel and chlorites turn calcite green, cobalt and manganese pink, an admixture of pyrite gives yellowish and greenish shades, calcite with an admixture of iron - yellowish, brown, or red-brown.
